I think it could be one of three species - Geoglossum cookeianum, G. glutinosum or G. umbratile. Unfortunately, I don't have descriptions of them all and I suspect I'd need to do a microscopic examination to tell for sure which it is. This was the first time my husband, Chris, and I have ever seen these things and we were treated to quite a showing. I can see why they are commonly known as Earth Tongues!Photographed in the Blue Tier on the Goblin Forest track.
