Small brown butterfly with a few tiny white spots on its upper wings. There were many of these feeding on the fragrant purple flowers of a woody bush, square stems, maybe in the mint family? See third photo.

Initially noted as an unidentified spread-wing skipper (Hesperiidae: Pyrginae), but identified later as Erynnis baptisiae by Nick Block. Unfortunately photo with better diagnostic features is out of focus (not uploaded). On clover, trail at Salt Marsh Nature Center, Marine Park, Brooklyn, NY.
