"Falso camaleón de montaña de cuernos cortos (Phrynosoma hernandesi) captado en un monitoreo biológico comunitario dentro del APFF Campo Verde, Madera, Chihuahua. El rasgo distintivo de estas lagartijas es la presencia de espinas en la nuca, cuerpos regordetes y la conducta de llorar ""sangre"" cuando se ven amenzados; esta especie es común en el ANP y se puede distinguir de otras por su coloración clara (beige-crema-café claro) y sus espinas cortas. Son activos depredadores de artrópodos (principalmente hormigas) y se les encuentran en habitat rocosos donde se mimetizan eficientemente."
