At lunch today, I explored this soon-to-be developed plot of land. Lots of goldenrod seeds that I'll have to snag up later on this fall too.

Today was the Texas Pollinator BioBlitz at Tandy Hills -- only ran into a few folks, but it's all good -- I still had a blast with those that did come along! Hopefully they learned a little bit about the importance of pollinators. :)

This is one of the scariest bugs I've ever seen. It made determined efforts to chase both Peggy and me out of its territory. It was between 1.5-3 inches in length when flying (it grows in our memory...). Beautiful but freaky!

A large Tarantula Hawk I had seen stalking the native plant garden in front of the culture center, as the afternoon began to cool.

She was alive when I took these pics. Was reported that she was hit by a vehicle and on closer inspection she had a ruptured abdomen and was euthanized after this. She was not aggressive while handled and did not try to sting, though it still seemed functional and she could retract it, and she was active. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
