Trawled off the Otago Coast, sometime in the 1960's. Sadly I don't have better data than that. Given to me by Kath Fletcher from Mt. Maunganui in the 1980's. She was elderly and I was a teenager.

Found it in a tidepool! (shared with dpom, same individual, I'm slow to post due to turkey consumption).

Another amazing find in the intertidal today. Thank-you @robberfly I think this one is Calliostoma gloriosum. What do you think @pliffgrieff @invertzoo The base does not have any markings on it like the C. tricolor I posted. Again, an empty shell, no hermit. We have had quite a few storms this month and are wondering if that is perhaps why we are seeing a few new subtidal species here.

One with more orange in it. I have included a shot with three Calliostoma in it, the small C. tricolor and the two C. gloriosum for comparison. Again this orange specimen was empty. Of the five rare Calliostoma we saw today, only one had a hermit in it, the rest were empty.

Guess this was the Find-of-the-day. It's a sub tidal species that got blown ashore from all the rough storms...

With hermit. Nice find by Liam.
