After being spotted, a Snapper comes out into the open and heads for another refuge. We spotted a gator in the open near Peacock III a few minutes earlier, but I lost sight of it in there. While skimming around the edge of the pool, I spotted something that didn't make any sense. It looked just like an open alligator mouth hidden under that carpet of vegetation. After a long contest of "Wait and see what it is." a little movement finally revealed it was actually the rear claw of a big snapper. I would have tried to tell it that it's my turn to hide now, but judging from the size of it, I figured it would be better to just play by the house rules.Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State ParkSuwannee County, Florida, USAOlympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear

I can't imagine there is a bigger Snapper in residence around the head springs, and this behemoth couldn't have been calmer; while it didn't venture out too far, it didn't seem to mind the light in it's face, didn't stir up the bottom, and stayed perfectly still for several minutes at a time.Florida Common Snapping TurtleManatee Springs State ParkChiefland Florida Olympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom GearSea Life Sea Dragon 2000 Underwater Photo Light

This big Snapper didn't seemed at all concerned with all the people making a bunch of racket by the tube take-out, and paused for a few pictures before he went back to doing his own thing.Common (Florida) Snapping TurtleBlue Springs State ParkOrange City, Volusia County Florida, USA Olympus OM-D E-M514-42mm II LensPT-EP08 Underwater Housing, PPO-EP01 Lens Port & 14-42mm Zoom Gear
