Dead along the trail. Stiff and ants ran out of the only apparent injury when flipped over. If killed by a predator, it wasn't eaten. Tracker I know has said that this is quite common and there are theories floating about as to why these animals are killed but not eaten. I don't know to what extent it has been studied.

Found dead on the path, relatively intact. One small hole on the side, where small maggots are feeding. Laying on back.

This poor little mole was dead/dessicated on the trail. It's uncanny how human-like its hands look. It's kinda sad that the only time I get to see creatures like this is when I find them dead on the trail.

Saw it scampering across the road. When we approached it started digging furiously and ended up underground in some very hard earth. Cool.

Found on Skyline Trail just before the junction to Huckleberry and Pinehurst Trails. The mole was observed foraging above ground near a creek. Unknown how common it is for moles to be above surface.

Very speedy, diving in and out of eucalyptus leaf litter. Too cowardly to catch it like http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/3446483 !
