Had a wonderful time with the East Texas Master Naturalists today. Presented on botany, then led a little field trip around the Nature Center in Tyler. I stopped to get some gas in Canton and went to this park that I've been to once before. This is an amazing park -- if you find yourself in Canton and want to see some nature, check out Cherry Creek Park! It's the closest place to DFW where you can spot sundews (Drosera) I think. A few of these I'll have to work on ID's later on -- just wanted to get them uploaded first. :)
Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) 25 March 2017 Tomás Rivera Elementary School Denton, Denton County, Texas This was a surprisingly excellent park area for documenting different kinds of moth and butterfly species this time of the year. Several bird species were also present including Northern Mockingbird.
Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos). Near Return-a-Gift Pond, North 40, Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY. Making what sounded like an alarm call. Mockingbirds are of course among the most frequently encountered birds in this habitat.
I'm not sure of this ID either. It did sound like a mockingbird was singing in the area, though this particular bird was not. Might not be slender enough to be a NM.
