These Mallard sized geese were very common at this location. We had some of the regular large Canadas as well but I failed to take any shots of them. The Canadas dwarfed these birds.

We came across 2-3000 Cackling Geese on Marshall Lake near Sayre, Oklahoma. The first shot is a large crop of a very distant view which shows a Snow Goose surrounded by the Cackling Geese for size comparison. Note the Cackling Geese even closer to the camera are smaller than the Snow Goose. Other shots of the flock on the lake and birds in flight are posted. There is a 4th shot showing a broad view of the scene and the number of birds taken by gcwarbler which has been added.

We had about 300 of these geese in a field next to the highway, some very close. They were all just a little larger than a Mallard.

Definitely cackling geese, they were short necked and smaller than Canadians. Image quality is not that great, but enough for identification.
