It's a hard to identify from the photos, but the wings had noticeably long primary projection, dark above overall, breast had a yellow wash with a dusky vest appearance, solid orange lower mandible, lacked a distinct eye-ring.

I saw several Eastern Wood-Pewees today. This is a fairly common spring migrant through this part of Texas. Western Wood-Pewee, though similar in appearance is unknown in spring from east Texas and I am certain this is Eastern Wood-Pewee. The bird did not vocalize which is typical for migrants.

There were three migrant Eastern Wood-Pewees flycatching along a fence row on Settegast Road on Galveston Island. Visually it would be difficult to eliminate Western Wood-Pewee, but that species is not known to occur in the eastern part of Texas in spring while Eastern Wood-Pewee is a very common migrant. The birds did not vocalize, but based on my bird observation experience in Texas, I have no hesitation in making the ID as Eastern Wood-Pewee.

Heard calling. Western Wood-Pewee not expected in this part of Texas. Call is distinctive for Eastern.
