The Cooper's hawk is a medium-sized hawk found throughout much of North America. These birds occur in a wide range of woodland and forest habitats. These hawks have a unique hunting method where they hide under cover of the forest in order to surprise and capture their prey by flying quickly through dense vegetation.

We are not sure what the prey was but suspect it was a Mourning Dove as about a dozen or so were in the nearby maple tree at the same time. Date: 31 January 2008. Source: Own work. Author: A.
