Any guesses on the species of this well dead shag? It's small, has a pale bill, and a hint of blue around the eye. It was washed up onto Cave Rock at Sumner.

Heavily cropped from a wider view, but I think you can see the white stripe up the side of the neck to above the eye, and blue/green face, and yellowish legs in the takeoff shot.

Numbered around 300 odd (a guess obviously) flying along the Bight, headed out and back along in a circuit. These guys on the beach look like juveniles? ...

"I think these are spotted shag - juveniles, but I wasn't there to take the photo and I can't see any adults in the picture. I could be wrong though... feel free to correct me :) Excuse the ""where's wally"" oystercatcher..."
