The photos of the trees are the only trees in the are with fruit on them. Most of the fantails i saw were in a large group flying from branch to branch in a large tree, i could see at least 4 at one time chattering to each other

Young? fantail with white band on right leg. Who bands fantails? Bird was active but perhaps half the speed of most fantails that I've watched, perhaps just inexperienced, or cold?

When I originally saw this bird, I thought it was the black morph of the North Island Fantail. But then the photos on film that I took were under-exposed and didn't print well, and having subsequently seen pied morph juveniles I began to think it was just one of them. But more recently I scanned the negatives, and to my surprise it looks to indeed be a black morph North Island Fantail, although a young one. So the first and only black morph NI fantail I have seen in my life :-) Filmed sometime before 22-04-2009, not even sure of year though!
