This ragged seahare was found on a mat of mixed floating sargassum and algae in the surf line at Navarre Beach, Santa Rosa Co., FL. A few others were seen in the same area, all ranging in size from about 1 to 2.5 inches. When active, the animal showed many short ragged, branched appendanges along the sides of the body. Once disturbed, it exuded purple ink. Any help with ID would be appreciated.

"Absolutely amazing to watch this. The round ""sand"" in the middle of the back gets popped out. This is one of a group of about 243 - that is all I could count. After a while with the ""sand balls"" popping out and holding their shape, fish came in (couldn't get a photo of them as they blended into the water and cause too much distortion) and ate what I am guessing is roe."
