Spotted the muddy brown snake at the Huntley Meadows wetlands. It positioned itself at a spot for about five minutes before it slithered away into undergrowth. I managed to take a quick shot of the creature before it bolted.

A muddy watersnake, this was my first encounter with a snake that had emerged from its hibernaculum. I didn't even realize it was just dirty, I thought it was a completely different species until it was pointed out to me that most snakes looks like this when they emerge from overwintering. Crazy!
