USA, Tennessee, Morgan County, Frozen Head Natural Area and State Park. 22 March 2009. Several individuals of this species were observed on 21 March along the Lookout Tower Trail between Armes Gap at Highway 116 and the summit of Frozen Head Mountain. They were typically seen patrolling along the opening for the roadway or in a gap in the forest. Two individuals spent several minutes chasing another butterfly of an unidentified species. Photography was made difficult by the very active nature of the species. The individual photographed stopped for only a few seconds before returning to flight. This is the first documented record for Frozen Head and likely constitutes a first record for Morgan County (as recorded on the Butterflies and Moths of North America
