I think this is Tonna tankervillii which according to http://www.mollusca.co.nz/speciesdetail.php?speciesid=842&species=Tonna%20tankervillii is also knowns as Tonna cerevisina. Mind you it could be something else!

This tricky little shell starts off white when dry, but changes colour when wet. The last photos are of the door and the creature who lives in these shells :)
