Description: Robber Fly, Blepharotes splendidissimus, a species of Asilidae. Como NSW Australia, December 2011. The garden stake is 19 mm square. This makes the Robber Fly about 35 mm from eye-ball to tip of abdomen. It is a noisy flyer. Big, noisy and careening around the back yard. I think it was hoping to find an unattended small child to carry off to its lair. Date: 3 December 2011, 11:46. Source: Large Robber Fly. Author: John Tann from Sydney, Australia.
