Had no idea I was photographing two insects. What are they? Looks like a bee-like body, long brownish wings, furry white beetle-like head, big black eyes. So small they looked like a black broken off branch stub of the tree. I saw one fly on, that's the only way I knew they were there.

"Went up to this park up in Richardson -- they are trying to be proactive to folks overfeeding the ducks at ""Duck Creek Linear Park."" There's indeed a large population of ducks, but there's a lot of lovely vegetation all along the creek too. That's good! :) Spotted lots of other things along with ducks too. :)"

This is a bumble bee robber fly that was seen in the Nature Gardens at NHM. It was hanging out on the kangaroo paws in the garden on the east side of the building (the 1913 garden) right next to the bee hotel and the milkweed patch. It picks off wasps and bees, injects them with venom and digestive enzymes, and sucks them dry. Photo and info courtesy of Brian Brown.

This spectacular photo was taken by David Sheehan in Westchester, CA. The robber fly has injected this wasp with venom and digestive enzymes so it can drain the wasp of its bodily fluids.

This Mallophora leschenaulti apparent;y spent the night at this spot as I noticed it before daylight. Waited for dawn and got a few shots before it flew away. First one I have found at this location.
