This is a provincially rare dragonfly that is listed as Imperiled (S2) by NatureServe in Ontario (although it is common in many parts of its US range). Seen in the Carden area of Kawartha Lakes.
Gold-Ringed Dragonfly. Cordulegaster boltonii. This is a large, striking dragonfly and the longest British species, the only one of its genus to be found in Britain. Found this specimen half dead in a car park, presumably it hit a windscreen.
