La reproduction sexuée des basidiospres requiert la compatibilité des spores provenant des mycéliums différents. La phase haploïde correspond au mycélium primaire. La phase diploïde dicayotique (2 noyaux) correspond au mycélium secondaire et tertiaire. La caryogamie se produit dans les basides (non illustrées) du basidiocarpe. La basidiospore provient d'une méiose.
