A number of mosquitoes were buzzing around people in the shade under ornamental trees. The setting is a home in dry-side rural subdivision at about 200 meters elevation. The mosquitoes have been very prevalent here for the past few weeks since the rains.

With all the rain we've had lately the mosquitoes are out and about

I killed this mosquito on a friend's porch while looking into a bucket full of water and mosquito larvae.

We left two surveillance traps with sticky black paper, water and a grass inside of them at the Puako Boat Ramp. They were hidden in the vegetation. When we retrieved them three days later, the traps had been overturned, presumably by an animal. We found the mosquito stuck to the sticky paper.

We collected four larvae from a bucket of stagnant water on the deck of private residence. We left the larvae in a jar with a stretched sock over the top to allow for ventilation. This is the first of the mosquitos to emerge. It is less than twelve hours old. We believe it is a male due to the feathery antennae. The lyre pattern on its scutum (back of thorax) is very pronounced.
