"Took these caterpillars from twigs of a true wine plant, Vitis vinifera, after finding dry excrements at ground. Called ""Mittlerer Weinschwärmer"" in German, one might think they would feed on leaves of Vitis sp., however this seems to be not true, and i didn't see any leaves fed on."

A neighbour brought this fat monster caterpillar to get to know what kind it is. Not knowing much about butterflies i post it immediately before a huge bunch of other images to get the ID. The caterpillar is estimated ca. 8-9 cm long with 2 eye-dots a few segments behind the head, have seen three pairs of tiny feet-stumbles behind head. Other details may be seen at the photos.
