Common Snapping Turtle. The recent abundance of rain really has the reptiles in the move. We found this little turtle making his way up our street. Usually when I come across these guys they are about as big around as a hubcap... This one was quite a bit smaller. How small? Check the accompanying pictures to see for yourself. We released the little guy back into the neighborhood creek.

A female snapping turtle came into our backyard, dug a hole in one of our flower beds and laid her eggs. She then covered her eggs and left. Does anyone know how long the eggs will take to hatch and what we should do, if anything, to protect the eggs?

Momma on her annual egg laying trip in our yard. Nearly as punctual as the swallows at San Juan Capistrano or the buzzards (turkey vultures) at Hinkley.

Found a snapping turtle trying to cross the road, got her over with a shovel. Didn't try to snap at me.
