While the weather was unseasonably drizzly and overcast for Canterbury this didn't prevent some 50 TEU members calling into TEU House to recognise and celebrate the contribution of General Staff to the reputation and operation of the University. A few key members of the Branch Committee took on the role of cooks and bottlewashers, the Organisers distributing the BBQ onions and sausages to the waiting throngs, and fruit juices and a hot cuppa made sure those who attended felt welcomed. To cap off the afternoon Organiser Gaby Moore conducted guided tours of select groups of members to watch 'the feeding of the eels' ceremony in the creek that runs behind TEU House. A tap of the spoon on the stepping stones soon saw the small gang of eels appear, hungry for their day's free meal. The biggest is over 10 pounds weight and was named 'Turama' by our Kuia Mere, and fortunately it has had a Rahui placed on it so members at Aotahi can drool but not touch!
