I don't recognize this critter but am guessing it is some sort of bee fly. Any ID help much appreciated.

This is the insect that I referred to in an earlier observation that got into a flower where another insect was hidden under the pollen and it looks like in this progression of pictures, the soldier fly had to make a retreat... not sure on the ID so as always, assistance appreciated
