Observation of bird life was done in the new restoration plot at Punakaiki. There was likely to be more Weka in the area where we observed in the 5 minute bird count.

In Punakaiki Reserve, a weka was looking for food in a grassy area. It is 30 cm long and brown-grey breast which I think it is a juvenile buff weka.
