I was surprised to see this falcon fly overhead right in the middle of Wellington city. This is a crop of the photo I quickly took through the car windscreen. It came out from the buildings west up Vivian Street and flew overhead heading east.

Grainy photo at maximum zoom, but rapid flight and distinct call confirmed this sighting in eucalyptus trees.

Adult falcon on apex of roof of house plucking a sparrow we presume it had just caught, flew off in direction on back of Karori Park with the sparrow

I watched this falcon fly past for a minute, excited because we don't see them around here very often. I'm super sure of the ID (it got quite close), and I'm sure you will be too when you look at my award-winning picture I took when I remembered I had a camera on me! ;)

Incredible sight!-but couldn't get it quick enough. Out of nowhere, quite high in the sky, came a 'very large bunch of sparrows' (approx. 500 or so)-(like a big wall) and this N.Z. Falcon flew into the middle of them to take its victim and then land on a farm post to have its meal.
