A falcon flying overhead, noisily. There was a pair in the area. This is as good a photo as I managed to get of them.

approached from some distance at the 200mm end of lens; walked forward side-on with camera to face until the bird got too big for the frame; ended up about 2m away. The chick showed no concern & the parents were off hunting so lucky on that count too! see http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/376989 for an earlier shot of the same individual, no other chicks from nest

Juvenile karearea hatched within the sanctuary and brought up by its parents under the gaze of visitors who were allowed within 20 metres of it's nest (so long as they didn't make to approach). Make a move to cross the tape and you would be dive bombed by the parents.

For the last two weeks we have had two NZ Falcons flying over us and around Khandallah Park hunting. Today about 40+ Tui chased one of them into the gum tree out the back of our place where it stayed for about half an hour while being bombarded by them
