Competition entry for worst Wood pigeon photo: Wood pigeon in silhouette, on end of branch in centre of photo. Seen on Miramar peninsula, I wasn't aware that there were any present there, but am told that there are a lot of Karaka trees about, so there is something for them. Positive id, saw it in flight and watched it for 5 minutes.

At least a couple in the area. Saw them munching on tree lucerne (see this ob. http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations/977474), also saw a couple of breeding display flights.

Always kereru around Otari, not large numbers though. I did see three flying over head.

Always kereru at Otari, if you don't see them, you hear their wing beats.

Kereru feeding on fruit. I have often seen and heard the flight of pigeons around this area, but hadn't before seen their objective.

A pair perched on a power cable above our garden. They had a great view of Whanganui city centre and the river, but it being such a cold morning (1st of the season) they seemed to be more interested in the approaching sun light. After a while (20 mins) in the sun they became more active and left. One of the pair, the smaller one, was more alert than the other one. Other birds such as starlings did not cause them concern, but a passing Myna had more of an alert.
