White Lip Snake/Herald Snake (Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia) performing defensive display in the Laikipia Nature Conservancy, Laikipia, Kenya, 2009
-
Dead/injured animal warning: In this first pic, it's hurt from falling from the door frame onto the ground, in the second and third pic it's further injured from me trying to kill it. The whole situation makes me kind of sad, so others might not like to look. I opened my outhouse door and it fell, bounced off my head and arm, and onto the ground, apparently hurting its neck on impact, but not enough to be instantly fatal, it pulled back fairly quickly into the ready position pictures in the first shot. I'm not a huge fan of killing animals for non-food or whatever reasons, but I've been told many of the snakes here are dangerous and I'm pretty fond of myself and the many kids and dogs who live around me. If anyone has a good photo guide to harmless snakes of this area, so I know who's safe to let wander free, I'd love to look at it.

I found maybe 10 of those in the last years - this was the first biting me. Fortunately too small to harm at all.
