two hatching eggs & a third empty shell; observed on ground outside an freshly opened nest. A tuatara's head & front foot is visible on the left hand side of the front egg. Unfortunately did not think to look for a third eye... The duty ranger that day (who had previous juv tuatara rearing experience) retrieved these three off the ground. These were taken to Victoria University along with a further 9 eggs retrieved from the nest the following day. The hatchlings were returned to Zealandia a few months later & remain on display near the Tuatara research enclosure
