I've looked for this creature to photograph for three seasons. Creekside Sciences, the group I work with on Mission Blue Restoration, began restoring this creature years back.

About three of these checkerspots were seen along the trail on the NW side of the lake.

Landed on someone's hand during the hike, there was heavy wind so it was probably not what it intended.

Found on a hilltop near Indian Warrior ( Pedicularis ) . Note dark base to antennae tips , nearly blunt wing tips ,and a red band on the dorsal hind wing that is absent on our local Variable Checkerspot .
