@robberfly, @maractwin, @kueda and I observed a color banded Black-bellied Plover on Mustang Island, Nueces Co., Texas, on 9 November 2015. It was on the Mustang Island Beach near Port Aransas at: 27.7082 -97.147 I received the following information about this bird from Dr. David Newsstead at: David Director â Coastal Bird Program Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program, Inc. 615 N. Upper Broadway, Suite 1200 Corpus Christi TX 78401-0749 361.885.6203 (o) Facebook: CBBEP Coastal Bird Program The bird was captured 10/24/14 on Mustang Island at 27.7084 N, -97.1468. It was part of a project we were doing with Smithsonianâs Migratory Connectivity Project. The bird originally had a device on it that was supposed to record and transmit some GPS locations, but the unit was bad and the antennas on the device broke (these are not big stout satellite PTT type antennae). There appears to be no evidence of the device beneath the feathers from your photos, but I thought that before about another one, and upon recapturing it found that it was indeed still there. I will probably be trying to recapture that bird this winter.
