Attracted to a blacklight. This is a common moth back home at my porchlight in Austin, TX. I tried to make it into some other exotic Florida specialty but I cannot.
This example was photographed at the westbound I-10 Rest Area in MS, 2 mi W of the Alabama state line. It looks a little more purple than most of the examples I've seen in CenTex but I can't seem to make it into anything else.
There have been several of these Dusky Herpeto's at the porchlight over the past few nights. The FW is 9 mm, thus a WS of about 20 mm. Compare to the much larger mystery pyraustine here: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/2330545 Blacklighting on 10/26-28. Despite recent heavy rains, BL results have been disappointing. I'm going to be uploading a series of the entire array of moths that I documented on 10/26-28, excluding a couple of unid. micros.
