Just a lone date palm. In my opinion this is the most beautiful tree in the Middle East. It needs lots of water but can resist high salinity. This is why many of them grow around the Dead Sea, where this pic was taken.

Date palms were grown in Israel since beblical times and before. To my opinion thay are moe of the most beautiful trees of the Holy Land. They are native to the region, growing in desert springs and salines. Most of the dates are planted these days, like these ones that are located at the entrance to the Ein Gedi nature reserve on the Dead Sea coast. The palm dates need a lot of water, but can also grow in rather salty water, this is why this tree is an important crop in the drying and salty Middle East.
