At porchlight. Very similar to H. perspectalis, but note the namesake two black dots on either side of the base of the abdomen. These can sometimes be hidden under the HW. Here's the MPG page for the species.

This is apparently the first of the Fall of this regular species (Oct-Nov) at my porchlight. This one was perched high on the eve, thus the odd angle of the photo. [Some numerologist might want to look into this: This was image 7252 on my camera and the Hodges number for this species is 5272. What are the odds?]

"Had a group of 10 girl scouts earning their ""bug badge"" at the park this evening, so I put up the moth light! After the girls left, I was able to take a few shots of some night bugs. I'll spend some time working on these ID's later on with the discover life moth guide: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?guide=Moth&cl=US/TX&flags=HAS:"

Before meeting with some folks at Dallas Public Library, I stopped by Reverchon Park for a quick breakfast -- and of course, some exploration! :)

"Elizabeth and I had the most wonderful time at the Big Bend Nature Fest (http://www.bigbendnaturefest.com/). These observations were made during the ""blacklighting event"" led by Chuck Sexton and John Abbott. We were swarmed by all sorts of cool new bugs -- it was super exciting. I'll be working on ID's for lots of these later on, but I did want to upload them first. I'll use a lot of bugguide, moth photograph group, and the discover life moth guide to narrow down ID's. Although, if you do know some, I'd not turn down any guidance! :) Special note: blacklighting is prohibited in Big Bend National Park -- a permit was required for this event to take place."
