Bay leaves are scattered in Mediterranean scrub in Mt Carmel and the Galilee (Israel). They bloom in March-early April. The leaves are insect repelents, so u can put them in your kitchen and have less insects around.
and back to the Romans, they bay-leaves crows were sign of vistory, but they were also lice repelents!

We are waiting for a road block to be opened at the Sequoia national park and I saw a small tree nearby. I smelled the leaves and thought it is a laurel. Later I have realyzed it is Umbellularia californica, the American cousin of laurel.
