continuing rarity that has been present for some time. Fairly shy bird so only got a few distant flight shots and one very distant shot of the bird perched.

Lewis's Woodpecker?

Texas Ornithological Society's winter 2015 meeting was in El Paso. This bird was reported earlier by other birders. Numerous birders had seen it. When we were there, the homeowner at 1001 Blanchard St told us of two woodpeckers using the ash tree in her backyard. As we were about to enter her backyard, one Lewis's Woodpecker flew out and perched in the top of an evergreen tree not far away. Nancy Schwartz is the homeowner and claims two pairs are regularly seen. It didn't stay in any one place very long - poor photos!
