"This is not a very good picture, but I'm adding it anyway to document the flock of red-winged blackbirds in this new park in San Jose. This bird did not have the yellow band below the red wing epaulettes, so I'm guessing it belongs to the subspecies called ""Bicolored"" [A. p. californicus]."

In a willow tree near the main pond. This is my second sighting of a red-winged blackbird this season. I didn't see any yellow on its shoulder, so I'm thinking this is the California subspecies. Note: my first sighting of a red-winged blackbird this year was in a shopping center parking lot on top of a car in South San Jose about a month ago.

There were two red-winged blackbirds calling to each other near the pond. No yellow bands on the wings under the red band, so this is the California subspecies.
