Finally! There was one male SHCO among the large flock of Brown-headed Cowbirds and European Starlings that was using the lawn near the visitor's center. He was rather shunned by the others, so it was not surprising when, at one point, he stayed in a tree longer than the rest of the flock, enabling me to get these pictures.

"Shiny Cowbird Fort Morgan, Alabama 4 May 1990 Shiny Cowbird is mainly a South American species, but in the mid 1980s the species started showing up in Florida and elsewhere along the Gulf coast on occasion. I found this one on the grounds of Fort Morgan, on the Alabama coast. There were three birds present. Apparently the species has declined in the U.S. in the past 20 years as they are not reported much any more. This particular image was published in the magazine ""American Birds"" which covered the spring, 1990 season."

Shiny Cowbird Coryell Co., Texas 13 June 1992 This male Shiny Cowbird was caught in a cowbird trap at a nesting area for Black-capped Vireos. It was the first record of the species for Texas. The bird was collected by researchers and the study skin of this bird now resides in the Texas Cooperative Wildlife Collection at Texas A&M University.
