A flock of shags diving, swimming, flying, diving ... along Evans Bay towards the end of Miramar Peninsular. They were followed by a few red billed gulls, and there's an extra observer in there too that I didn't notice at the time.

Dead on the side of the Akaroa highway by the turnoff to Kaituna Valley. It's small and all black, including the beak. That should rule out a juvenile little shag which can be all black but has a yellow beak. I read on NZBirdsOnline that little black shags are uncommon in the South Island but expanding in numbers.
