Maximum longevity: 51.6 years (captivity) Observations: Estimates suggest that males may live up to 39 years in the wild and females up to 49 years (Ronald Nowak 1999). One captive female was still alive at 51.6 years of age (Richard Weigl 2005).

Die Stompneusdolfyn (Tursiops truncatus) is 'n dolfyn wat feitlik aan die hele Suid-Afrikaanse kus voorkom. Die soogdier het 'n stewige liggaam met 'n kort, geronde snoet in die vorm van 'n bottel se nek. Dit kom voor in die oop see en lewe georden in 'n groep. Hulle speel ook graag in die branders. Die dolfyn word bedreig deur haainette.
