Giant Guitarfish

Rhynchobatus djiddensis (Forsskål 1775)

Inhabits close inshore and shallow estuaries, from the surfline down to 30 m. Feeds on crabs, lobsters,squids, bivalves and small fishes. Males mature at 156 cm while females at 177 cm off East Africa (Ref. 1602). Ovoviviparous. Bears about 4 young in summer, 60 cm in length. Takes crayfish and pilchard bait. Flesh with excellent taste. Utilized fresh and dried/salted (Ref. 9987).
