Until recent years, the half banded sea perch was an Australian mainland species. This year (2017) the first H. maccullochi was recorded on a Reef Life Survey on the Tasman peninsula. On our recent dives along the peninsula, we saw several individuals. Can you find the one in this shot, taken in The Cathedral? (behind the pink sponge)
"H. annulatus is the least common of the sea perches and is not often seen. This is due in part to it's habit of living upside-down ""suspended"" from the roof of caves. Like a bat, but underwater. This photo was taken at Shark Point in Sydney."
Monument, Kurnell. The blackbanded seaperch is quite rare, and easily confused with the yellowbanded wirrah flic.kr/p/DWhXZT and banded seaperch flic.kr/p/qhUQqj. One clue is that H. annulatus likes to suspend upside-down in caves
