Oceanic, highly migratory species usually found in surface waters above the thermocline at temperatures ranging from 15° to 30°C, often in near shore waters close to land masses, islands and coral reefs. Like other billfishes, this species effects seasonal migrations. Feeds on fishes, squids, cuttlefishes, octopods, large decapod crustaceans and mostly on small tunas when abundant (Ref. 9668). Also caught with troll lines, harpoons and set nets (Ref. 9308). Marketed refridgerated or frozen and prepared as sashimi in Japan (Ref. 9308). The flesh is of good quality (Ref. 9308).
