"Hadoa texanus (aka Texas Dog-day Cicada) (formerly known as Tibicen texanus) Note: Looks like iNaturalist has incorporated the lastest scientific name for Tibicen texanus, which is now referred to as Hadoa texanus. 30 July 2016 Enchanted Rock State Natural Area Gillespie and Llano Counties, Texas Hadoa texanus (aka Texas Dog-day Cicada) allowed hikers on the trail to get exceptionally close to it without being startled and taking flight as a defensive measure. Observed on the descent from the crest of Enchanted Rock to the perimeter trail that circles the site below. It was calling out loudly in the late morning sun. Hadoa Texanus is native to parts of the United States and Mexico and as a result is an authentic resident of the Western Hemisphere. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department administers Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
