Suborder Phyllodocida incertae sedis is by definition an artificial cluster of families of no significance in itself. Here it has Order Phyllodocida orphan families which might be unrelated but not assigned to a subgroup (Suborder here) cluster within Phyllodocida. Rouse & Plejel (2001) had an informal grouping of 'Phyllodocida unplaced', which has similarities to the families included here, and within that they dealt with some genera as Phyllodocida incertae sedis, including Yndolaciidae (as Yndolacia), and they dealt with Isopilidae, monotypic Pontodoridae (as Pontodora), and Typhloscolecidae as "'Minor' holopelagic Phyllodocida"
