This was common on the south side of Moss Landing, though not so common elsewhere. Note that this particular dock was pretty bereft of life on the underside, and had at least one large male sea lion on the top side, along with numerous signs warning you not to approach the sea lions. The door was open, though. You can park for free along the road, but parking near the more expansive private docks closer to the highway is paid. IMO, head for the north side of the inlet by Kayak Connection, where you also have to pay for parking but there are more options for fouling stuff.

This image is part of series that I am working on to document the organisms of Lake Merritt, especially now that measure DD improvements have increased the effect of tides on the lake. Lake Merritt was originally a large tidal lagoon with water ebbing over mudflats and these photos are taken to help broaden the appreciation of all the life that occurs in that space. You can find other images or contribute to this project by tagging with or search for: lakemerrittmudflats www.flickr.com/photos/damon_tighe/tags/lakemerrittmudflats/

REALLY GORGEOUS! Stalk stripe pattern was blue-blue-orange-blue-blue-orange with black separating the colors. Pale tentacles had some white speckling. Several anemones in a little cluster. TINY - about half the length of a Doto kya, so maybe 2 mm? More photos on today's Doto kya observation: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/4529699

Found this little guy outside the interpretive center. They were everywhere, and my guess is that they are non-native. They had a slight yellow hue to the tentacles. I have no idea what they are and any help with id would be appreciated. The ring is about 3/4'' and almost every anemone seen was about that size or smaller.
