Distribution

provided by World Register of Marine Species
Neotype locality off coast of Turkey (see Thalassema scutatus for details). Reported global distributions are unlikely to be correct, but are indicative of the accumulated literature occurrences. Sendall & Salazar-Vallejo (2013 advise: "Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel, 9–36 m depth. Deeper water records from the Eastern Mediterranean (Ben-Eliahu and Fiege 1995) deserve a careful comparison to define if they are conspecific with the shallow water material. Some records from non-Mediterranean or Northeastern Atlantic localities might belong to other, probably undescribed species."

Distribution

provided by World Register of Marine Species
Noticeably expanding in abundance along the England south coast (Townsend et al. 2006), possibly stemming from assisted introduction to Portland, although natural range expansion is not ruled out.
